A spontaneous trip to Duluth was one of the best things I did over the summer. Minnesota summers are extremely short so one must take advantage of the sunshine. A weekend with zero plans is rare, so we decided to head up to Duluth and go beach camping. We packed Pearl (my husbands ’89 Volkswagen Cabriolet also known as the Adventure Mobile) and put the top down and begin the cruise. It started to rain when we were almost to our destination and had to pull over in a rest stop and put the top up. But as soon as we got to Duluth, the clouds cleared and it was sunny again. I lived in Duluth for six years so every time I go back I feel like I’m home. We met up with some friends in Canal Park for some drinks before we headed to the beach. Eventually, we made it out to the beach about a mile down from the airport and set up camp. We made a HUGE fire to help keep the bugs away and enjoyed a night of intense stargazing and talking. We ended up staying up all night; it was such a beautiful night! I enjoyed taking exposure pictures for about an hour until the sun begin to rise and I couldn’t any longer. Watching the sunrise over Lake Superior is magical and everyone should experience it at least once in his or her life. It makes you appreciate life and realize that life is short so get out there and enjoy it.
