We had never been winter camping before, and it had been four months since we camped last. We were missing it, so my husband and I along with our friends Luke & Katie decided to go. We went to Willow River State Park in Hudson, WI. Jerome and I arrived first and got to pick the campsite, due to the amount of snow pilled on everything I doubted that anyone had camped all winter. We realized right away we should have brought a shovel (note to self). It was difficult to get the fire roaring because everything was wet, probably would have been best to buy a bundle of dry wood. By the time Luke and Katie arrived we had the fire going and the tent set-up. Luke and Jerome continued to gather wood while Katie and I figured out supper.
I realized that a full stomach seemed to help my body stay nice-n-warm. Thank goodness I had made a pot of chicken noodle soup and Katie had made us foil dinners to cook over the fire, yes we ate like kings all night. I was nervous about sleeping because it was getting colder but thanks to body heat and sleeping in my snow-pants I was nice-n-toasty!
I awoke the next morning to the sound of Jerome chopping wood, although not wanting to get out of my warm sleeping bag the smell of freshly brewed coffee convinced me. While the snow was falling we stood around the fire and ate our breakfast. Afterwards, we adventured to the frozen falls and did some hiking and exploring.
